Bird Watching at Pong Dam
Pong wetland, originally named Maharana Pratap sagar is one of the largest reservoirs in North India situated on River Beas on the northern edge of Indo Gangetic plain. Presently over 220 bird species belonging to 54 families have been traced and recorded over the years. Some of the most common and popular bird species seen here include waterfowl, barheaded geese, spot-billed duck, red-necked grebe, black-headed gulls, and black stork among others.
Hence Pong sanctuary has not only been a major habitat for migratory birds in the country but also a prime attraction for bird watchers. Recently Pong wetland has been internationally recognized as one of the finest and biggest wetlands of North India
